I am coming to find more and more tips for saving money on basic things like food and energy consumption.
The obvious suggestion with eating is to avoid eating out; one meal at a restaurant is sometimes equal in value to the supplies at the grocery store needed to make a huge family-sized dinner.
And if you live alone or with just one other person, these leftovers last for days or weeks at a time. I find that I’m not just saving money eating like this, I’m also happier and feeling better physically. And knowing that all of this money is being saved makes it a lot easier for me to keep my mental stress down and my head above the water. Recently I learned another great tip for saving money with energy consumption. I learned how I can program my thermostat to hit various temperatures throughout the day so I don’t have to adjust it myself. It naturally goes up in a curve during the hottest temperatures of the day and then drops down again as we transition into evening hours. Despite what one may think, this isn’t a trivial change. Adjusting indoor temperatures based on the ones outside is part of what a smart thermostat does when you put it on auto mode. But if you don’t have the money to upgrade to a smart thermostat that does it for you, your old digital thermostat should be sufficient as long as it has scheduling features. It’s such an easy change to make that requires nothing more than two minutes of your time and a few button presses. But the effect it has on your energy bill is unbelievable!
