The whole idea, when we started looking at property, was to put winters and the gas furnace behind us.
We even knew the region in the South where we wanted to relocate.
And just a few years shy of my retirement, we thought it would be best to start looking. Ironically, that region is where we had always vacationed as well. So we just made more time for quick vacations that included looking at properties. My wife and I were pretty excited at the prospect of trading HVAC heating for good HVAC cooling. So it does get hot here in the summer, it’s nothing like the heat and humidity way down south. And yet so many of the places we looked at had sunrooms. That seemed a bit counterintuitive to me but we started looking a bit harder. And we noticed they all had ductless heat pumps or some form of air conditioning. Otherwise, I just don’t see how you could have utilized this sunrooms during the worst of the summer heat. We did our research and were preparing to even make an offer when our oldest daughter got pregnant. This was not something we thought would ever happen as she has always been so focused on her career. She lives not too far from us with her husband and now there was going to be a grandbaby. That put a big crimp in our plans right away. Fortunately, my wife and I were on the same page. We were going to have to keep dealing with the HVAC heating and winter because we wanted to watch that baby grow. However, we did get a sunroom added on to our home and put a ductless heat pump in there so it’ll be comfortable during the winter.
