I can’t say that I am a show contractor guy, although I do happen to work in the industry to a certain extent… OK, so here’s the situation– for every film plus tv show they choose to make, there are a large number of people called support staff.
These are the electricians that work to wire the stage, the caterers that feed all the people on site, the parking attendants that take your cars. We certainly aren’t performers, however we are always working to contribute to these works of art being made. So I am not making an attempt to brag when I say that I go to a TV studio for my place of work every day. I am the HVAC man for the local broadcast affiliate, plus I am definitely a vital part of making the news shows you watch. It isn’t just me, the people I was with and I have a maintenance department that handles HVAC machines, electrical, plumbing, plus anything else facility-related. I am easily able to see, plus at times meet, a good amount of local celebrities, plus they all rely on me for the cooling machines, so their makeup doesn’t wind up melting. All of these folks, from the weatherman to even the mayor, all wear a bunch of makeup, plus the air conditioning machine balances out the heat from the lights working on the stage. Without the a/c machine, the broadcast would be a major disaster, so I have job security as long as I keep almost everyone feeling fully cool plus looking beautiful. I honestly enjoy what I do with my HVAC work, however I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get excited from being able to do my work alongside famous people. It’s a pretty sweet gig!
