Imagine Not Needing Heating and Air Conditioning

I have lived in the southeastern section of this country since I was several years old, and I have never lived without a/c. Since I am relatively young, compared to the aging population that is, I have only known a few people who have ever lived without a/c. One of them was my Aunt Bet. At the time, I was entirely young, so I didn’t supply it much thought, really, but I did consistently assume that it was no fun going to see Aunt Bet because it was consistently so darn tepid in his house. When any of us would go over there, though, he would consistently drage a box fan out of the closet and plug it in. Also, he would pull the cord on the ceiling fan and get that running, as well. Aunt Bet was my mom’s sibling, and he had genuinely no a/c in his house. If I gave it any thought at all, I recognize I just figured he didn’t need a/c. She seemed really aged to me, and most people knows that aged people have no oil furnace inside so they are consistently cold. Imagine not wanting or needing a/c? I can’t even go without a/c in my car! It wasn’t until several years later that I finally figured out that my aunt was in an abusive relationship. She wasn’t allowed to have heating and cooling, he wasn’t allowed to have a license, and he didn’t even get to do the grocery shopping. That also explained why my mother never liked Aunt Bet’s spouse. That was a sad situation.
