In some temperatures it can be detrimental to air quality by leaving windows open

If you’re like me and you lived in the midwest most of your life, then you’re used to leaving windows open on a official basis.

For my entire life growing up, the people I was with and I almost consistently had 2 or more windows open in the house.

Instead of consistently using an air conditioner to stay cool, the people I was with and I would run a few fans to circulate whatever breeze came in from outside. This was an severely effective way to stay cool throughout the year when it wasn’t the hottest parts of the summer. But, when I moved down south where the average day humidity is 20 to 30 percent higher, my opinion on open windows began to change, then the first issue you have to worry about is all of the dust in our region. It gets windy in the days and hordes of dust particles will get in your windows if you leave them open. You’ll find an abundance of dust on every indoor surface you check. But, that’s not the only thing you need to worry about. In addition to dust, the people I was with and I also have a lot of mold spores in our environment. Just like the dust particles, the mold spores will make their way into your condo through open doors and windows. When you couple this fact with the natural humidity and high heat, you have a recipe for disaster. It doesn’t take much for mold to get inside your house, take root, and then propagate. Even if you don’t have a mold allergy, exposure to it long term can have a variety of physiological effects from headaches to rampant coughing. With all of these things in mind, it is smarter to avoid leaving windows open in this warm environment.
