Hospitals, clinics, doctor offices, and laboratories have to be safe and free from germs, bacteria, and viruses. Indoor pollutants can cause a lot of issues in hospitals, clinics and laboratories. That is one reason why the air filtration equipment is so important. I work for a hospital that has a very technologically advanced air filtration system. I have been a mechanical engineer for 20 years and that is my responsibility to take care of the advanced air filtration system. There is a room with 5 monitors and all of these monitors keep track of the levels of bacteria and pollution inside of the hospital. It’s my job to watch the monitors for strange and different problems. When there is an issue, it is my responsibility to fix it. Last weekend, the air filtration system was reading intensely high levels of pollutants in the surgery room. I thought it was a mistake until I realized that someone left the surgery room door open. All of the pollutants from the hospital got into the surgery room. We had to stop surgeries for 8 hours while we waited for the air filtration system to get rid of all of the bacteria and germs. It was the first time that we had an indoor air problem that I could not text on my own. I had to contact the company that installed all of the air filtration equipment and computer software. Luckily, the company is located close to the hospital so they came right over to help me make sense of the problems. Turns out that the problem was a software malfunction with the electronic door and not an air filtration issue at all.
