So, over the last three years, our HVAC system has not been working the best.
We have had the HVAC technician at our house at least once every season, and every time he tells us we have to remember our HVAC system is over 20 years old.
I guessed that just like everything else, the HVAC system had a lifespan. My husband and I decided this year was going to be the year to plan for a new HVAC system. We weren’t sure what we wanted to buy, but we knew we didn’t want ductwork. After years of using a boiler, we truly thought that we would stick with a boiler system and our window air conditioning units. The more we talked about this, the more anxious we got about it. My husband had been talking about ductless HVAC, commonly known as mini splits. We knew we would need to have at least six indoor units to cool and heat our entire home. My husband started looking at ductless HVAC systems and figuring out how much it was going to cost, not just for the installation of it, but to run throughout the year. It surprised us to hear that our energy bills would go up less than $30 a month when the air conditioning or heating was on. My energy bills fluctuate $30 a month when the window air conditioning or the boiler was running. On top of the energy bill, we also had to purchase oil to heat the water for the boiler. Ductless HVAC was the best way to go for heating and air conditioning.
