I’ve always loved being an HVAC technician for the local HVAC company.
I’ve been a certified HVAC technician for 20 years and I didn’t always love where I was working.
I started at a small start-up HVAC company right after I finished my HVAC certification, which was fine for a few years because I was able to work hard while building my business and learning new things. The next HVAC company I worked for offered me an increase in money, but the people were horrible. The owner of the company didn’t actually do any HVAC servicing, and he just sat in his office all day long. Whenever he did step out of his office it was to boss everyone around or yell at someone. He also ran crazy promotions whenever he wanted, which ran all the HVAC technicians into the ground. I remember one morning when I came into work, I saw all my coworkers loading their company vans with a bunch of furnaces and air conditioning systems. When I asked if there was a special on furnaces and air conditioning systems, one of my buddys told me about the latest promotion our boss was offering. Apparently, he decided to start offering free furnaces and installation with any air conditioner purchase. Our boss didn’t warn us about the sale until the day it went live and we were slammed for weeks. I was forced to work 60 hour weeks in order to keep up with the demand! I hit my breaking point with this HVAC company a few months later and decided to find a different HVAC company to work for.
