Really, it all just seemed to have happened for a reason. The way it all sort of lined up and came together is now sort of obvious to me. Of course, when I escorted out of the zone controlled HVAC of the office I had occupied for more than a decade, I couldn’t see it. At the time, I was just a casualty of a merger. That corner office with the temperature control all my own was mine a single afternoon and gone the next. When the merger went through, I sort of tried to canvas my bosses who all thought that my position would be safe. That wasn’t the case. Nor was it the case for some of those women either. It was actually just a pretty big purge. The severance package was nothing to sneeze at and helped with a softer landing. In fact, I used some of that severance pay to invest in a new beach house office. Along with all the official office stuff that I would need, I had a ductless heat pump installed as well. Since our oldest is out of school and making her own way, It was her room that I took over. But it’s also the hottest room in the house. The people I was with and I live in a region where the heat is the deal and that room was a roaster. This is why the ductless heat pump was necessary right from the jump. Oddly enough, I was able to sort of keep calm and get on with maybe doing my own thing while I looked for other employment. It didn’t take a month before I was doing freelance consulting for some of the actually companies that I used to compete against.
