I am really into jumping rope.
- While I used to love to jump when I was a little girl, I got away from it for many years.
Because I follow several fitness blogs, I came across an article stressing the benefits of jumping rope. This style of exercise is often utilized by professional athletes because it is a full-body workout. It takes effort, balance, strength, stamina and coordination to get good at it. I started out with a leather rope with weighted handles that was definitely too long for me. In the beginning, I kept stepping on the rope and whacking myself in the calves. With practice, I steadily improved. However, the rope frequently knotted, kinked and broke. After replacing the leather rope three times, I looked into something better. I found a jump rope system that is quite unique. Rather than weighted handles, this system uses weighted ropes. I have four different sizes of ropes that all attach to a very comfortable set of handles. They attach by way of a metal clasp that allows me to quickly and easily switch between the ropes. The lighter weight ropes rotate more quickly and are great for burning a lot of calories in a very short time. The heavier ropes are more challenging and work the muscles in the arms, shoulders and core. I have gradually built up my endurance so that I can jump for a full hour-long workout. I make myself take days off to rest my feet and ankles. Jumping rope is my favorite style of workout.
