I’ve always hoped to live in a house that had a flat roof.
There are even drawings, from when I was a little boy, of square-shaped houses! All of them had the A-frame seen in most residential roofs.
I do not understand where I got the idea. My family always lived in a traditional style of house with a pointy type of roof. I remember getting in a big fight with my sister Ruth. Ruth used to say that it was impossible to have a flat roof because it would keep rainwater & collapse on you. But when I got older, I observed that many of the commercial buildings in our town have flat roofs. I found out that Ruth’s thoughts simply were not true. So you can absolutely have a flat roof on your house. However, try as I might though, I could not find a house to buy that had a flat roof. Eventually, I just made a decision to buy a home and have a flat roof installed by a roofing business instead. I called up the roofing corporations before I even closed the deal on our 1st house. I had them take a gander & make sure what I wanted was possible. Thankfully, it could be done. They advocated I have a modified bitumen roof installed. They could do all of the work themselves & it would only take a week or two. That’s what I ended up doing. I waited to go into the new house until our modern bitumen roof was completely installed. Afterwards I would be able to live in my dream style of home.
