When I was a kid, my mom ran off with another woman and left me with my dad.
Trust me, the story isn’t depressing, it gets a lot more interesting.
My dad was a great guy, and I have no complaints about my childhood, but the fact my mom ran off was always a sore spot for both my dad and I. I remember him telling me she had moved to a farm to build rustic furniture, but I never knew if that was true or not… until recently. My wife and I moved into a new house, and decided to order some custom furniture to accentuate our new space. On one of the websites we were checking out, I saw a very expensive line of custom furniture that was credited to a name I knew. After all these years, I found my mom on a custom wood furniture website, and it brought back a lot of emotions. I did more research about her, and found that her wood chairs and tables were very sought after, and fetched high prices at auction. My mom had been prominent in the world of oak and cherry furniture for years, I just had never been aware of it. I am still deciding if I should reach out to her or not, but one thing is for sure – I will not pay two thousand dollars for an oak coffee table, no matter who made it! I guess that high end furniture is not for me, because I don’t see the value in paying so much for something to put my beer on.
