I was devastated as a youngster when my parents decided to split up and get a divorce.
It was entirely awkward when I had to deal with a stepfather. The thing is, my step father will never be able to replace my real father. My real father is an HVAC technician and I have so much respect for him. Sometimes I ask him why he couldn’t make things work out with Mom, but he always just gives me a look and said that he tried. I guess some things just aren’t meant to be, but I’m thankful to have both of my parents in my life. My father would often take me on some of his HVAC calls and he would show me how everything worked. After a little while, he even let me help more with the HVAC work and it became fascinating to me. I felt like I had some kind of power, the power to fix heavy duty machinery! It made me feel good like we had a great purpose in life, to help these people who were struggling with their heating and cooling equipment. That’s no laughing matter either because when it comes to your HVAC, it can be the difference between life and death. If you lose your heating in the winter, obviously you may freeze to death and have your pipes burst in your home. If you lose your cooling in the summer, you’re going to be terribly hot and some people aren’t able to survive too much heat. I actually ended up becoming an HVAC technician just like my father, and I love what I do!
