When our daughter and daughter-in-law bought a home in the city that had an house the two of us were blissful for them.
Not only was this their first home however it was an income property as well which made it easier for them to afford the mortgage, however for the most part, the place was in pretty nice shape however the concern came when they discovered that the renter that was in the house was not taking care of the place very well.
They had many small children and the father was unemployed so she was home all day. She spent the day playing very loud tunes and when they went out for a spot inspection they realized that the place was a mess. They made the decision to give the renters a 30 day notice to vacate and knew that they would need to do some extreme cleaning and renovation before they could rent it out again. When the place was empty the two of us all converged to do the labor so that they could have it rented out again the following month! Although the two of us knew how to clean and paint the two of us needed some extreme help when it comes to window treatments and such to make the place more lovely to future tenants. Her child found an ad on Craigslist for a woman who labor as an interior designer and provided the woman to call to see what her pricing was like; She came out and looked the place over and then informed them that she was looking for a new house herself and would be interested in renting, but if they were willing to let her do the design labor and take her fee as the first many months rent she would be willing to sign a lease for the following year. This was love a dream come true because the two of us would have the place professionally decorated and they would have a renter that would take care of the place as well.
