Our Christmas fir tree was almost a fire tree

Our Christmas is always exciting, but this year it was extra exciting.

My in-laws showed up three weeks before Christmas, to spend time with the children and to help us with our preparations.

I loved how my mother-in-law pitched in to help my daughter and I make the cookies while my father-in-law was helping my husband to put up the Christmas decorations. I was glad that my father-in-law was outside with my husband when he began to skid off the roof. The ladder was steadied so he had something to latch onto. I had a small space heater in the living room to help keep it a bit warmer. We always had fresh Christmas trees because I love the fresh scent. It was Christmas Eve and there was a cold wind blowing outside. Some of that wind seemed to be going through the house, so I had the space heater over near the door, not even thinking about the Christmas tree. I had the heat from the space heater directed toward the Christmas tree.I must have forgotten to water the tree once and I had the space heater a bit too close. If it weren’t for my mother-in-law being so vigilant, our tree would have gone up in smoke, along with our home. She noticed the space heater being too close to the tree, but before she could move the space heater, some of the needles on the tree were beginning to smoke. We were able to keep the tree from actually catching fire, and I knew I had to find someplace else to put the space heater.
