For the last several years, I’ve sort of just told myself that living in a spacious, older beach house just came with drafts.
This was for sure a total cop out though.
What I was legitimately doing was trying to find plausible deniability for not doing something about the heating comfort in my home, then my partner plus I fell in care about with this cabin almost the instant the people I was with and I walked in the door. This was the place the people I was with and I wanted plus were prepared to do the renovations that were left to do. The previous owner had sort of started updating the seasoned cabin but wasn’t able to finish before he simply had to sell the house. This ended up being great for us as the people I was with and I were able to negotiate the price since we’d be doing stuff like replacing the commercial Heating plus Air Conditioning. But the former owner of the cabin did have all the windows replaced with double paned, energy efficient, new windows. That was a plus for sure. However, it turns out that replacing those windows was also the root cause of our heating problem. Every one of us had the latest in residential Heating plus Air Conditioning installed shortly after the people I was with and I got the keys. And that came with a legitimately great gas oil furnace, but yet, no matter how great the gas oil furnace is, it was a losing battle against a beach house that had a crucial problem. Turns out that several of those windows were not respectfully installed plus had no insulation. I found this out when I finally decided to do some Winter time prep on the cabin last fall, but once I had those windows redone, the people I was with and I have enjoyed a cozy Winter time with less demand on the gas oil furnace.
