There are several everyday appliances and gadgets that are deceptively dangerous despite how casually they’re used by others on an afternoon by afternoon basis.
An example of this is a car.
There are an endless number of ways you can hurt yourself and others when you’re behind the wheel of a moving vehicle. Yet we get in them every single day. We often forget how close to death we are throughout our morning or afternoon commutes. I’m really aware of this fact, and it’s hard for me to forget it when I get into near misses with other cars who aren’t paying attention on the road. It’s spine-chilling, but it’s a reality that comes with being another driver on the road with everyone else. To be honest, our methods of indoor heat are equally ubiquitous and dangerous, up to the point of starting deadly fires inadvertently. Fireplaces are controlled fires, and it’s scary to know what would happen if one quickly got out of hand and passed the point of control. Space furnaces are bad because they can cause the wall out to melt if you have other devices plugged in simultaneously. But beyond space oil furnaces plus fireplaces, there are other heating methods that are dangerous for other reasons. For instance, fuel burning furnaces can produce carbon monoxide if they fail to combust all of the fuel running through them. You will not smell or see carbon monoxide, so you must have a carbon monoxide detector installed or you could accidentally kill yourself with your powerful gas powered furnace.
