Temperatures on Friday night were supposed to be in the single digits. I wanted to be sure that the barn was ready for the cold temperatures. I was worried and concerned about the cattle and the horses. I called my son to help out for a few hours. He is a heating contractor, but he has a couple of hours to help me out from time to time. My son came over to the house to check on the heating equipment in the barn. We have a small radiant heater and a couple of floor heaters. We don’t use anything that might catch on fire, because that would be much worse than the cold air. My son knew that temperatures were going to be cold on Friday night so he brought an extra heater for the barn. The extra heater really came in handy, because the other heater ended up going out in the middle of the night. It froze completely solid after shutting down and the only heating source we had in there was the secondary heater that my son brought from the shop. I called him in the morning when I realized how cold it was outside. He was in the middle of a heating repair, but he promised to come over to check on things at the end of the day. We still had two more days of cold temperatures in store, so my son fixed the heating system and he helped me secure the doors and make sure that everything was sealed up tight for the night.
