For numerous weeks, I began to smell a musty smell all around our house.
It didn’t smell like mildew or mold, however just dusty and old.
My HVAC system was constantly ran tests on every year by the local HVAC dealer, so I knew that it couldn’t have been our HVAC system. The component was relatively modern and there hadn’t been any problems with heating and cooling any section of the house. I did, however, notice a slight increase in our biweekly utility expenses. It wasn’t anything extreme, however enough to get our attention. In an attempt to eliminate the musty smell, I screwed all the air vent covers and washed them in soapy water. I even took our vacuum and sucked out any dust that I could reach within the ductwork! When the musty smell was still there, I gave up and contacted HVAC professionals. I needed them to come wipe out our ductwork entirely in order to make sure there were internal problems. The cleaning took numerous hours, however the HVAC professionals were detailed and thorough, but at one point, they pulled myself and others aside and told myself and others about some holes that needed to be patched, which explained the slight increase in utility expenses. They were able to patch them on the spot and I was pleased by the amount of dust and dirt they disattachd. Afterwards, it only took a few hours for myself and others to notice a positive difference in the smell of our home. There was no longer a musty smell and I didn’t see a rise in utility expenses anymore.
