I had to laugh when my husband announced that when our fish died, he was getting rid of the tank.
Well, the fish died and he did unplug the tank, but he didn’t get rid of it. We still have a small amount of water in there, but there are no heaters or fans to circulate and heat the water. I was surprised to suddenly realize that we had a lot less humidity in the house and our air conditioner wasn’t running nearly as much. Our home was cooler and we were no longer running a dehumidifier. I noticed nearly 40% savings on our energy bill when it came in. I thought it could have been a fluke but when the energy bill came in with the same savings on the second month, I knew that it was because of the 180 gallon fish tank, no longer running. My husband and I were talking about this and he was wondering what kind of savings we would have during the winter. I am really concerned with this. We didn’t need a humidifier during the winter because of the fish tank, but we won’t have that now. The fish tank put out a lot of heat, so I’m wondering if our home is going to be harder to heat. Only time will tell about the energy bill, but with all we saved during the summer with the air conditioning, at the most, it should just even itself out. I know that I will now have my window back, but only after I clean the salt off the window sill and the floor.
