My wife and I feel much more relaxed this year after we moved into my parents’ old house.
They decided to downsize and move everything into a condominium down south next to the beach.
Instead of selling their old house, they gave it to my wife and I as a late wedding gift. Since our credit isn’t fantastic, this was our only chance to become homeowners until our finances improve. I thanked my parents 10 times over and then my wife did the same exact thing. It feels great having a home that is ours and large enough to raise a family in, but there are still major improvements that need to be made. We had to replace a window almost immediately and then the roof had to be repaired as well. During our first few weeks of winter here, we realized that the house felt drafty. I called a local heating and cooling company so they could send out a technician to inspect our HVAC system. I was hoping that we just needed a few adjustments, but that didn’t turn out to be the case. The technician from the heating and cooling company informed us that we needed to reseal the ductwork. There were multiple places where lots of air was leaking into the attic. After we had the ductwork resealed, the house immediately felt warmer with the furnace running. Although it wasn’t cheap, resealing the ductwork costs a fraction of replacing the ductwork altogether. Regardless, I’m just happy that we can stay warm through the winter now. This upgrade made a world of difference to our heater’s performance level.
