My hubby and I bought our apartment approximately a few years ago.
- At the time, the two of us knew the home was due for a current roof.
Since the two of us managed to get insurance on the property, the two of us procrastinated over the project. Both of us had a lot of other apartment improvements that took precedence. Both of us wanted to set up current windows, buy current appliances as well as update all of the light fixtures. Both of us were sad to update the kitchen, paint the walls as well as add attic insulation. Lately, however, the two of us started finding stray shingles in the grass after windstorms. Both of us needed to put down bins to catch leaks every time it rained. There was no option however to invest into a current roof. The project was started in the center of June, when the outside temperature was up in the high eighties. Because of the age of the roof as well as all the layers, the two of us needed to tear the whole thing off. That meant the two of us couldn’t run our air conditioner. The home was terribly hot, as well as there was a steady influx of insects as well as construction debris. My whole family was worried for the roofers to finish. When I started up the air cooling system, I was surprised how suddenly it cooled down the house. The current roof has certainly tightened up the thermal envelope as well as improved the energy efficiency of the house. It has significantly lowered my utility costs all year round. The air conditioner and gas furnace don’t need to run as often or as long. I am hoping that reducing the amount of work of the heating as well as cooling units will add up to greater reliability as well as longevity.
