Trying to reduce the HVAC costs

After Geroge and I moved into a smaller house, him and I naturally assumed that our heating & air conditioner costs would be lower.

After all, our house is about half the size of the previous one. So, George and I found this not to be the case at all. Our modern house cost significantly more to heat & cool than the old one. Why is this? This is despite the fact that our modern lake house has an air conditioner & oil furnace that are only a couple of years old. We started looking for answers. We had our windows & doors shut but that did not help the matter much. Then a buddy of ours told us to look into thinking about roof insulation. He told myself and others that all of the houses in this town were built at the exact same time & that everybody had an insulation problem. If the previous owners had not had roof insulation finished, then I should absolutely get my roof done. He had his roof insulation done about 10 years ago, right after he moved in, & l had the installation issue. We decided to call up a roofing business & get them to take a look. They explain that our roof contained no insulation whatsoever. No wonder our heating & cooling have to work so hard. The roofing corporation also said that he had put in roof insulation to almost all of the houses in this area. I guess there absolutely was some sort of an oversight when this tract was made. I look forward to saving money on our heating & air conditioner bills now.
