When we moved last year, we had to purchase a new house without seeing it first

The realtor had told us that the house had a new heating and cooling system

When we moved last year, we had to move completely from one side of the country to the other. It was a sudden move, too, and so we were completely unprepared for what we were dealing with. We worked with a realtor over the phone and she assured us that the home that we were buying had a really great new roof, new appliances, and a brand new heating and cooling system that we would love. However, when we actually made the trip across the country to get to the new job and the new house, we found that the house wasn’t exactly what we had expected. It had a new roof, but it was one of those weird blue tin roofs that you see on barns sometimes. The appliances were new, but they were the ones that are made to look like they came out of a 1950s era kitchen. They were a bright turquoise color with shiny steel handles. The real problem came when we got a good look at the HVAC system in the house. The realtor had told us that the house had a new heating and cooling system. We were expecting central air conditioning and an electric furnace or an oil furnace, or maybe even a heat pump. When we started looking around the house, we couldn’t even find a thermostat unit anywhere! The brand new heating and cooling units that the realtor told us about were a window unit air conditioner in the kitchen and an electric space heater in the bedroom. I couldn’t even believe it!
