Working out when I’m suffering from insomnia

I tend to suffer from insomnia. I have great difficulty falling asleep at night. I often lie in bed for hours, unable to shut off my mind. Although I’m so tired that I can’t quit yawning and my eyes water, sleep is nearly impossible to achieve. If I do manage to fall asleep, I typically wake up after two or three hours. I’m immediately wide awake and the process starts all over again. Sometimes, I force myself to remain in bed with my eyes closed. I figured that at least I’m resting. However, I find it incredibly boring and start thinking about how I should be accomplishing something. I then get up and either go to work on my computer, clean the house or workout. I exercise every single morning for approximately an hour. If I can get my workout done in the middle of the night, that’s an extra hour I get during the day. I always hope to sleep in but rarely do. I wake up at the same time every morning. On those nights when I’ve stared at the ceiling for hours and can’t stand it anymore, I get up and head out to the lanai on the back of my house. I have plenty of space to exercise without bothering anyone. I blast my music to get motivated. It takes me a bit of time to get into the workout. At three or four o’clock in the morning, I’m feeling rather lethargic. Once I get started, I typically get a fantastic workout. I’m so aggravated by not being able to sleep that it’s a great way to burn off both stress and calories. I might just dance around to my favorite songs or jump rope. I lift weights, go through a variety of crunches, lunge and squat. I make sure to get myself sweaty and breathless. Then I shower and head back to bed. I know that a vigorous workout is not the ideal way to combat insomnia. I don’t immediately fall asleep.
