You can call your state’s bar association to find local attorneys offering free legal advice

After getting in a minor car accident in the parking lot at the grocery store, I was confused and bewildered.

Although the perpetrator left his insurance information, he purposefully bailed before I could get police to arrive at the scene.

Some of my friends and associates have given me conflicting advice on what to do, making me feel helpless. I even went to an online forum for help, but by and large many people were echoing the same sentiment—that I needed to find a real lawyer and to not waste time with useless legal advice from faceless anons on the internet. But since I don’t have a lot of money, I assumed that I wouldn’t be able to afford even just one session’s worth of legal advice, but I quickly learned about something great. Attorneys must do free pro-bono work every year to fulfill requirements from that state’s Bar Association. If you call your state’s Bar Association and tell them what your question or issue is, they will compile a short list of attorneys in your city and county that specialize in the area of law that you’re dealing with. Some of these pro-bono attorneys are otherwise phenomenal lawyers throughout their day to day operations. I was relieved when the representative from the Bar Association was able to find six attorneys to choose from that handle personal injury law. Even though I wasn’t injured, these attorneys are veterans with car collision cases. Going with a lawyer in this field of law was my best bet for helpful advice. After speaking with one in particular, I felt confident that I knew how to proceed with my case.
