You have to be prepared for the worst

We actually experienced an earthquake recently. It’s the type of thing that I have always thought about from time to time, but I didn’t actually believe we would have to face anything so severe. It shook our home up pretty bad and even the power was knocked out in our region. It was the midst of the summer months too so it was blazing hot without being able to use the air conditioning system. I honestly wished that I was better prepared for such a disaster, but I will consider this a lesson learned. We cleaned up everything we could and then we decided to drive out to an area where the people were not affected by the earthquake. We got into a hotel where the A/C was working and we cranked it up! I wasn’t surprised that the hotel was packed full of people that came from the earthquake. Some people’s homes were entirely destroyed while others seemed like they weren’t even touched. I was just thankful that everyone in my family was okay and that nobody got seriously injured during the ordeal. I actually started looking for ways to be prepared for earthquakes and learned that it’s good to have a backup generator for the power, stilts for the HVAC system so it can avoid damage, and emergency food kits and water storage. For the future, I will definitely be prepared with these things. While I do hope that we never face another earthquake again, you never know and it’s best to be prepared for the worst.
