I just made one of my favorite dinners of all, the good old sauerkraut, sausage, and potato dinner.
It’s such a simple meal to cook and it can be made for very little money.
If you haven’t made it yet, I suggest you try it. All you do is boil some red skinned potatoes, and then brown some pork sausage in a frying pan with olive oil. Then add the cooked potatoes to the sausage and fry it for 10 more minutes, turning once or twice. Once it’s ready, drop it in a bowl and top it with cold sauerkraut. Make that dinner on a cold night and sit in front of your fireplace, with an ice cold drink and you’ve found the secret. If you don’t have a fireplace then just sit in front of your space heater, but make sure you eat it on a cold winter night. My German grandmother seemed to always cook it for us in the middle of the winter, something to stick to our ribs. My grandparents had that old dial thermostat that always seemed to shake the arrow that was showing the temperature, it was so archaic yet I loved it so much. I can still see my grandpa stoking the fire flames with that air puffing thing he would squeeze, it worked great. It’s much more fun than just touching your cell phone and adjusting your house to the perfect temperature. We’ve got it way too easy nowadays with technology don’t we? I may just go back to the old style of heating my house and buy a wood burning stove.
