My husband is an HVAC technician and he cannot stress the importance of a homeowner changing the air filter.
- Every 3 months or even sooner my husband will change the air filter in our home.
Sometimes we change it sooner whether we notice that there is more pollen outside or I feel that we need to change it. We have 3 dogs and 2 cats so the air quality in our home can be not as clean as we want it to be. My husband likes to tell his customers that to keep their home comfortable and minimize any respiratory problems all you need to do is consistently change the air filter. When homeowners do not change out dusty and clogged up filters, it can reduce airflow and increase the energy used to at least 5 to 15%. Air filters that are not changed can also lead to having a person replace other parts in their HVAC system. One part that can be affected by a dirty air filter is a dirty coil. A dirty coil can definitely affect the home ventilation system. Everytime my husband goes to a homeowner’s house to do some repairs it is mainly due to a dirty coil by homeowners not replacing their air filters. Every house that he goes to he always tries to give them a heads up on how to replace an air filter and the effects to when an air filter isn’t changed. It is a simple task to do and homeowners need to be educated more about it.
