Readying for winter starts now

So where I live, we are still sort of experiencing very spring like weather.

It’s almost June but we still are getting down to the upper 50’s at night.

The air conditioning hasn’t come on yet even though I flipped the thermostat over to HVAC cooling a month ago. I’m still not exactly sure why we have central air conditioning in our house anyway. Well, I know why indeed and it’s because my wife pretty much demanded it. When we sold our old place, she was adamant that the new house would have central air conditioning to go along with the gas furnace. We also have a wood stove in our home that supplements the gas furnace in the winter. The wood stove also acts as an emergency measure if the power is out and the snow is too deep to repair it quickly. That’s something I’ve always made sure of. HVAC heating is really nice and I love the gas furnace. But I also rest a lot better at night knowing I can crank the wood stove. That insurance doesn’t come without effort. And I have to start on that winter prep now. We’re fortunate to have always lived on some land. This spot has 20 acres that are ours. I like to use downed trees as much as possible for heating fuel in the winter. But those downed trees don’t cut themselves up and stack neatly on the back porch. I’m slowing down some now so my grandson helps me out a bit. And we even have log splitter instead of the big maul I’ve used since I was nearly his age. So there isn’t a lot of time in the air conditioning for me this summer.
