Many young adults nowadays are striking out on their own at a much older age than we typically did in my generation.
For the most part, millennials claim it is necessary to stay living at home with their parents because they simply cannot afford to make it on their own. When they finally do cut the cord, I see them making the same mistake over and over. They go out and purchase the cheapest furniture they can find, thinking they are being smart with their money. The opposite is true; throwing money away on inferior products is not a wise move. It makes much better sense to buy high end furniture that you can keep in the family for generations. If you ever go to the home a family with generational wealth, you undoubtedly see that their home is furnished not with modern fake wooden tables or mass produced wooden tables that look like they wouldn’t last in your daughter’s cozy dollhouse. Instead, they have custom built furniture that looks as though the house were built around it. Similarly, they may have a leather couch or leather chairs that have been in their families for more than one generation. There is no mistaking the classic elegance of fine furnishings, whether they produce the sense of a meditterranean manor, more of a southwest style, or perhaps even a French provincial manor. Today’s millennials need to look past the cheap price and get high end furniture instead of cheap crap that will look old and need to be retired in a year.
