Odors become trapped in the duct system

Last winter, right around the Christmas holidays, I decided to make a seafood dinner.

I bought fresh scallops, shrimp and crab legs. The meal turned out beautifully, and my family loved it! Unfortunately, the entire home reeked of seafood. The stink somehow permeated every single room and lingered. It was especially awful upstairs in the dining rooms. Since the outside temperature was down to fifteen degrees, I couldn’t simply open up the windows and bring in some fresh air. All of us were relying heavily on the heating system and already paying plenty high heat bills. I tried spraying air fresheners and lighting scented candles. I vacuumed and scrubbed with disinfectant, and nothing got rid of the foul stink of seafood. I finally contacted my familiar Heating and Air Conditioning contractor and asked them to repair the heating system. When I explained the problem, the worker checked the entirety of the plan and tested the air duct. He discovered that there was a buildup of dust and other debris within the ducts. He said that these contaminants absorbed unpleasant stinks and then spread them by way of the heated air throughout the home, then plus, the accumulation restricts airflow and downsidely impacts comfort. It also was degrading the health of indoor air quality. He performed a duct cleaning process that took a little over an hour! Once it was completed, the home instantly stinked better. I noticed the heating system no longer needed to work as strenuous to maintain comfort, and there was a reduction in the cost of my quarterly heating bills. I am now going to make a point of having the duct plan checked every year.
