I hate having a floor level air return when I have dogs roaming the house

I am in a love-hate relationship with dogs being a lifetime dog owner.

Sure, I will admit that dogs can be some of the cutest and most loveable creatures on the planet.

They’re extremely loyal, many are great around young children, and you can have loads of fun four hours each day just playing with one. At the same time, they are extremely dependent on their owners if they’re not part of the minority of dogs who are as fiercely independent as their feline counterparts. Like many other pets, dogs are also capable of serious property damage. Even though torn shoes, pillows, and clothing are all serious problems, that’s nothing when you come home to find slashed and torn drywall, bitten baseboards, and a small flood from a broken pipe. I love dogs to death, but they can be insanely frustrating sometimes. And if you have dogs that like to talk, you neighbors might secretly hate you if they haven’t already made it apparent yet. Right now I’m dealing with an issue where our HVAC filters keep getting clogged after three to four weeks of constant use. Because our air return is next to the floor, all of the dust, dirt, lint, and hair that we walk around goes right into the a/c filter. If the return had been installed at the ceiling, this wouldn’t even be a problem. But when you have dogs constantly roaming the house, this problem gets even worse. They’re shedding on the floors all of the time, so you can imagine how many air conditioner filters I go through each year.
