My husband, Mike, decided to take our window air conditioner apart and thoroughly clean it before the start of summer.
He had no idea what he was doing.
While Mike is always good about cleaning the air filter, he’d never performed any other service on the unit. By the time he was done, Mike had the whole air conditioner totally dismantled. He had so many parts spread across the floor that I doubted he’d ever get them all put back together. I was sure the air conditioner would never work again. I started watching for sales on window air conditioners. For three days, Mike scrubbed and vacuumed and made sure every part was in pristine condition. She worked on the fan blades, coils, motor, belts and all types of things that were a mystery to me. I had no idea there were so many parts within the air conditioner. When Mike finally decided he was ready to put the air conditioner back together, I stayed away. I expected him to have a lot of trouble, get frustrated and start throwing his tools around. When I returned from a trip to the grocery store, I was surprised to find the air conditioner back together and operating. It was much quieter than ever before and definitely putting out a lot more cold air. Mike explained that he’d googled instructions and watched Youtube videos. He admitted that reassembling the air conditioner was quite difficult. I was extremely impressed that he’d managed it. Mike said that he would rather buy a new air conditioner than repeat the cleaning process again.
