Old farmhouse needs new HVAC

They did, however, offer some alternatives.

My wife has had her mind made up for a while now. She really wants an old farmhouse style home when we buy our own home. She has always loved that style and nothing else will do. We have been living in different apartments for the first decade of our marriage. And finally, we are ready to buy. The realtors we talked to weren’t offering us much in the way of farmhouses. They kept trying to push more modern houses on us until they realized that was futile. Finally, an old farmhouse was listed and we went to check it out. It does need a little work but the price and location is manageable. The only problem is that the farmhouse doesn’t have central heating and air. It has a fireplace, 2 window air conditioning units, and the previous owners used to use space heaters as well. This is a problem. I am a city boy. I like to be comfortable in my own home. All I want to do is push a button on a thermostat so that I have a completely comfortable house. That is not possible with loud window air conditioner units and dangerous space heaters. So I agreed to buy the house but only if we get central heating and air installed before we move in. That seems to pose a problem because the HVAC company we hired said there is no space for ductwork. They did, however, offer some alternatives. We could get underfloor heating and cooling. Or, we could get a ductless mini split system. Both sound good to me. We just need to decide what is better.
