My son is a big time guitar player but left his collection behind.
- At first it was okay because my son was away at college.
Then he moved into a tiny apartment and now he is living in a small house with his girlfriend. My son still comes home to play his vast guitar collection but doesn’t take any with him. He simply doesn’t have the space. I don’t really like the look of many guitar stands and different instruments laying around. Since it doesn’t look like the collection is ever leaving my home, I need somewhere to put them. Currently I am consulting with a guy that does wood furniture. I asked him about guitar storage and he was against casing them in a dresser, bookcase or some other closed furniture piece. He said that guitars need to be out in the open and have superior air quality. The instrument could easily get damaged taking it in and out of a storage container. The lack of heating and AC could wreck the wood pieces on them. At first I was frustrated but then the guy came with a great idea. He wants to do recessed shelving in my son’s old bedroom. He then will put felt covered hooks to hold the guitars in place. So when you peek into the room, there is nothing on the floor but the guitars are in the walls. He showed me mockup drawings of his ideas and it looks amazing. I can’t wait for him to mount all the guitars out of the way.
