When our sister called to say that our mother had passed out, I was horrified. I told her to get her to the hospital without waiting for an ambulance. She said she could have used some help getting in the car, even though I knew I would be stuck in traffic on the way to her house. I didn’t want her to risk staying out of the hospital. But, it turned out that she suffered from heat stroke when her cooling system quit working. It was a pretty hot morning and she had no choice but to open all the windows for a breeze to come through the house. She was able to recover in the hospital for a little while. In the meantime, I called the Heating and A/C company and had them work on her cooling system. We had to replace a few worn parts, which was an expensive task, but it was worth it to prevent our mother from collapsing in her home again from heatstroke. Furthermore, she loves being in the hospital because of how they blast the air conditioner. I always thought it was way too cold in most hospitals, but after her experiencing that heatstroke, I could imagine it was a big relief for her. The medical professionals told her to make sure not to stay out in the heat of the morning for too long and to use the temperature control system as needed to keep her comfortable.
