I have a buddy who is just the undoubtedly picture of self reliance.
Well, that is until just recently.
This guy, whom I’ve known for nearly 40 years now, has been a maverick his whole life it seems. He’s never been one to shoot for the corner office with the zone controlled heating and A/C. Nope, he has consistently been about self sufficiency and residing as simply as humanly possible. And no, he’s not doing it for any other reason than it’s how he wants to live his life. He doesn’t judge anyone else for their choices and that is so refreshing for me. My buddy lives in a neat beach house on like 50 acres. He has a huge garden plus some livestock. His heating plan for the Wintertide has been a wood stove and his air conditioner is some shade and as much breeze as he can catch. However, both of us are aging and with that comes some change. He recently found out about a pretty major health complication he’ll have to deal with. Other friends and I rallied around him. The two of us got the rest of his wood for heating, cut and put up. And both of us are taking turns making sure he definitely gets to appointments and gets some overnight care if he somehow needs it. This guy has consistently been there for all of us. It’s fantastic that both of us can be there for him. A couple of us decided to get the heating and A/C supplier to go out and install a ductless heat pump for this Wintertide if he can’t make a fire. Like I said, he’s been there for us so getting him access to some heating and A/C heating is small potatoes.
