When my husband and I decided to build a home, we wanted to find the best heating system to handle the severe cold in our local area.
There are a lot of different brands and styles of heating technology available on the current market.
Trying to determine the right solution for our specific home was a difficult challenge. Modern systems are rather complicated. We hoped to choose a heater that would be easy to operate yet provide consistent and energy efficient temperature control. Clean and healthy indoor air quality and safety features were a priority. We were looking to incorporate a smart thermostat and zoned control as well. After a whole bunch of research and consulting with a local HVAC contractor, my husband and I chose radiant heated floors. We invested in a boiler that is installed in the basement. The boiler heats water and sends it through a looping series of pipes concealed beneath the hardwood floors. It is a closed system and has no effect on our water heating bills. The heat from the pipes spread evenly across the floor and radiates into the room. There is no drafts, hot and cold spots or introduction of pollutants. The system requires only annual maintenance for the boiler and operates silently. The radiant heated floors are extremely energy efficient. We further trim costs by utilizing zone control. An independent thermostat in each room allows us to avoid heating unoccupied spaces. We can also customize temperature to suit requirement and personal preferences. I like that the system is entirely hidden. It doesn’t look ugly or take up lots of space.
