When I was young and dumb, I thought that I could keep my entire apartment warm with just a space heater. I didn’t want to pay the price of fixing my furnace when it stopped working, so I decided that if I just used one space heater in my bedroom, I could remain comfortable enough to survive until I could afford to purchase my own house with a working furnace. However, nobody ever informed me about how dangerous and inconvenient space heaters were. The first problem that I had with a space heater occurred when I tripped over a space heater in the middle of the night walking to the bathroom. I had a radiating space heater since it was the cheapest space heater that I could find. When it fell to the ground, I burnt my leg and broke the space heater. Hot oil began running out of the space heater, ruining everything in its path. When I purchased my second space heater, it was much more powerful. It heated my room well, but it drew a lot of electricity to do so. After a few weeks of using that space heater, it literally melted the plug that it was plugged into, almost catching my house on fire. I didn’t actually start a house fire until I purchased my fourth space heater, which caught the curtains on fire. Thankfully, I wasn’t home at the time, but it did force me to find a new apartment. Now, I don’t mess around with space heaters. If my furnace is broken, I fix it.
