I couldn’t believe that the college I chose would only have the air conditioning on for the parents who were visiting.
When we didn’t have any air conditioning on, I was really upset and I was ready to go home.
I knew I couldn’t just walk away. I had made a commitment to my parents and to the school to stay for at least a year and I wasn’t going to back away from that commitment. Regardless of whether I had to go without air conditioning or heating throughout this entire year, I wasn’t going to back down. When the year was over, I may want to switch schools, but I was going to give it the old college try. By the time the year ended, I had had enough. The heating barely worked and the air conditioning never did get turned on, even when we had a spate of 100 degree plus weather. If I didn’t learn anything else from going to college, I did learn that I was not meant for college life. I knew that I enjoyed having perfect HVAC more than I enjoyed knowing that I had a good education. I wanted perfect air conditioning and perfect heating all of the time. I got home from college that year and I talked to my dad. I told him I appreciated going, but I no longer wanted a college degree. I asked him if he would be disappointed if I were to go to HVAC technical school instead. I know that being a HVAC technician will be better for me.
