When we decided to build our house, we also decided to have a gas furnace installed in our house. We were convinced that using a gas furnace was a lot less expensive than using an electric furnace, plus it would be easier to hook up a generator to use a gas furnace rather than an electric furnace. Our gas furnace is located in the attic, but we have an unusually large attic. The gas lines for our furnace run on top of the flooring, which means that we have to be careful to avoid tripping over or breaking the pipes that lead to the furnace. For five years, we had never had trouble with our furnace. That was until yesterday. It was the end of summer, and it was finally time to carry the air conditioner upstairs and switch to the furnace shortly. While carrying the air conditioner upstairs, I was having a hard time seeing where I was walking. I usually put the air conditioner close to the door, but my wife had put something there instead. As I was carrying the air conditioner, I tripped very hard on the gas line to the furnace, breaking the seal. Immediately, the smell of natural gas flooded the attic. I closed the door and ran downstairs, trying to call the HVAC technician to come immediately. I knew that natural gas could cause an explosion in our house. The HVAC technician came out shortly, fixed the furnace, and reminded me to be careful in the future. It wasn’t my fault that I had to put the air conditioner in a new location
