Adding a rational approach to air conditioning

This Summer is going to be different.

Granted, I’ve said that before but this time, I’m actually prepared to follow through with some thermostat discipline. When you live where I do, the Summer is a big dread. I love where I live but it does come with some outright scorching conditions that drag on for months. I knew this when I moved here and honestly, it’s so worth it. The rest of the year is glorious when it comes to climate and weather. Still, after five Summers, I was still spending far too much on cooling costs. And that’s for sure changing this year. Years prior, I did that home prep to seal up the house tight. I’ve always been consistent about getting the air conditioning tune ups. And it’s very rare that the shades aren’t pulled to mitigate direct sunlight heating. While all of that is textbook for saving on HVAC costs, I couldn’t stay committed to thermostat discipline. Finally, that’s not going to be the problem this year. That’s because I got logical about air conditioning finally. The temperatures start to rise in March. And there are days when I would just flip on the air conditioning and leave it. While I thought that was sort of a normal thing to do, it was not allowing me to acclimate to the rising temperatures. I realized this after talking with a neighbor who is a native of the region. So this Spring, I left the air conditioning off and am much more accustomed to higher temps and am leaving the thermostat where it is. So this Summer, I really am going to save on air conditioning costs.
