Living in the northern part of the country, I never felt that central air conditioner was necessary.
- It seemed like a total waste of money.
We typically need to operate the furnace for six to eight months. The winter brings temperatures down to twenty-five below zero and dangerous windchill. I spend a fortune trying to heat my home to a comfortable level. The winter weather is so much work and so expensive that I always looked forward to a break in the summer. I liked opening the windows and welcoming in some fresh air. The lower monthly utility bills were certainly appreciated. All of that changed when my daughter developed severe allergies. Opening the windows was no longer an option. The influx of dust, dander, pollen, exhaust fumes and other contaminants led to headaches, sore throats, itchy eyes, sneezing and coughing. We needed to keep as clean of a home as possible. The installation of a central cooling system not only allows us to shut the windows but provides effective air filtration. I’ve now learned that there are many benefits from central cooling. With the air conditioner running, the house smells better, feels fresher and stays cleaner. I no longer have condensation dripping down the windows or issues with mold and mildew. On the especially hot and humid days, the entire house is perfectly cool and comfortable. It’s such a relief to step inside. Plus, we all sleep better in a cool environment. Having the air conditioner has made a huge improvement in my daughter’s health and quality of life.
