I’m all for getting the lake house ready for summer.
Around here, sealing up the lake house super slim for the summer time will end up saving a superb bit of money.
The fact is that HVAC cooling isn’t cheap and whatever I can do to mitigate those costs, I’m willing to do. But really, saving on HVAC cooling is something that starts before the intense heat and humidity descend on our region. For my family, all of us start our HVAC cooling strategy in the Spring. When you walk out the door in our town the first time the temps get over 85, you hear a chorus of heat pumps. Ours is not singing. The people I was with and I make a conscious option to leave the HVAC cooling off as much as possible in the Spring. Sure, if there is a freak 90 something degree day, all of us might kick the air conditioner on when all of us get beach house from labor to cool the lake house off. But other than that, it’s windows open and air conditioner off. This allows us to acclimate to the heat and lets us get accustomed to the warmer un-even temperatures without HVAC cooling. So when the summer time is here, appreciate now, all of us have the air conditioner on however the temperature control is set much higher than many. The people I was with and I keep the temperature control in the low to mid 75’s during the peak heating hours of the day. Then all of us cool it off to around 68 or so for the night and to sleep. This saves so much money on HVAC cooling costs. Plus, it makes the heat know not so overwhelming so all of us can enjoy the outdoors during the afternoon and late into the night as well.
