I think it’s time to replace my furnace.
The heating system is almost twenty years old.
It has lasted far longer than I ever expected. While the furnace has provided very reliable operation, performance has diminished over the last few years. Where have been minor issues that require repairs, and the cost is adding up. I’ve noticed that my utility bills are a bit higher every year and comfort has steadily diminished. I’ve needed to raise the thermostat setting a couple of degrees and still the furnace struggles to handle demand. On especially cold nights, the house feels a bit chilly. The winters in my local area are especially long and brutal. We expect temperatures in the negatives and lots of snow. The furnace is essential and carries a heavy workload. I would rather not have my heater quit in the middle of January and be in a rush to have a new one installed. Replacing the furnace is a big investment. I’d prefer to take my time, determine the ideal model for my home and schedule installation during the summer. I have been looking into the various makes and models of furnaces available. A lot of improvements have been made over the last twenty years. While my current furnace is only able to operate at maximum capacity, today’s alternatives feature adaptable-speed technology. This allows the furnace to automatically adjust output to match the requirements of the indoor space. It can adjust in one percent increments anywhere from forty to one hundred percent capacity. The result is energy efficiency ratings of 98% AFUE, more consistent indoor temperature and less problems with overly dry air.
