Our church needed a roof replacement in the worst way.
We’ve been having some roof leakage for years now. Usually one of the parishioners climbs up on the roof and slaps on a little bit of tar and a new shingle or two and that keeps the water out for a couple more months. However, this year, that has not been enough. The roof is leaking so bad that we ended up draping a tarp across it. Then we passed the collection plate. It took a few months but we finally got enough money for the roofing materials. We still could not afford to have the roof replaced though. We needed to save up a bit more for the labor cost. However, we were fortunate because one of our parishioners is a roofing contractor. He doesn’t own the roofing business but he said he would talk to his boss and see if they could start installing the roof now and take payments later. He came back a few days later and told me that his boss was willing to complete our roofing construction at cost. That means we only have to pay for the roofing materials. That also means that we can afford to have the new roof installed now. We went ahead and hired the roofing contractors. I’m looking forward to seeing the new roof on the church. I’m really looking forward to not having the ceiling leaking or worrying if the tarp will blow off in the storm. I’ve always pictured God watching us from Heaven while we worship him but I don’t think we need holes in the roof for him to see us.
