The people I was with and I started by getting zone control installed into the entire building so that the laptop room can be kept at about 60 degrees
Working in IT is pretty interesting. I’m surprised at all of the people do not understand the basics of laptops… Most of these crucial companies should really have a full-time IT person. Instead, they just hire me to come in and maintenance things once it’s already crashing and burning. I mean that literally, and this a single supplier called me in recently because their laptops keep going down. I took a single look at their laptop tower and knew the reason why mediately. They have their a/c set up wrong for the laptop tower, but you’re supposed to have it set up so that the chilly air goes into the front of the tower and the intake vent (for the cooling system) is at the back of the tower. This keeps the air flowing in the official orientation to cool down the laptops. Instead, this supplier had the air conditioner blowing on to the side of a single layer of towers! Additionally, they did not have a temperature control for the laptop room. The laptop room had the same temperature as the rest of the building and was set at about 81 degrees, needless to say, we had to make a lot of adjustments to get their laptops working correctly. The people I was with and I started by getting zone control installed into the entire building so that the laptop room can be kept at about 60 degrees. The people I was with and I also oriented the laptop towers differently so that all of the laptops are now getting chilly air flow on the official side while the tepid air is being taken out of the opposite side. They should not have any more problems at that supplier with laptops overheating; But was that giant of a laptop tower, they really do need a full-time IT person
