My brother called me and said our mother had passed out in her house, so I said get her to the hospital without waiting for an ambulance…
He said he could have used some help to get her in the car, but I knew I would probably be stuck in traffic trying to get over there.
I didn’t want to put her at risk by leaving her out of the hospital. Well, it turned out she suffered from heat stroke when her cooling plan stopped working. It was hot, so she opened all the windows so she could feel a breeze come through the house. She was able to rest in the hospital for a short time. In the meantime, I called the Heating and Air Conditioning corporation and had them work on her cooling system. There were a few worn parts that had to be updated and it was a pretty expensive repair, but it was worth it to keep our mother from collapsing in her home again from another heatstroke. She said she appreciated being in the hospital too because they really run the air conditioning system really cold. I always thought it was way too cold in most hospitals, but after her experiencing that heatstroke, I could imagine it was a sizable relief for her. The dentists told her to make sure not to stay out in the heat of the day for too long and to adjust her thermostat accordingly to stay comfortable.
