I have a friend who is just the very picture of self reliance.
Well, that is until just recently.
This guy, whom I’ve known for nearly 40 years, has been a maverick his whole life. He’s never been one to shoot for the corner office with the zone controlled HVAC. Nope, he has always been about self sufficiency and living as simply as possible. And no, he’s not doing it for any other reason than it’s how he wants to live his life. He doesn’t judge anyone else for their choices and that is so refreshing. My buddy lives in a neat cabin on like 50 acres. He has a huge garden as well as some livestock. His heating method for the winter has been a wood stove and his air conditioning is some shade and as much breeze as he can catch. However, we are aging and with that comes some change. He recently found out about a pretty major health problem he’ll have to deal with. Other friends and I rallied around him. We got the rest of his wood for heating, cut and put up. And we are taking turns making sure he gets to appointments and gets some overnight care if he needs it. This guy has always been there for all of us. It’s great that we can be there for him. A couple of us decided to get the HVAC company to go out and install a ductless heat pump for this winter if he can’t make a fire. Like I said, he’s been there for us so getting him access to some HVAC heating is small potatoes.
